1 Bn. Princess Charlotte of Wales' (Berkshire) Regiment, Suakin Field Force, 1885.

To be honest, these could pass for any of the regiments clothed in grey serge during the Sudan campaigns, but to me they are A Company, 1 Bn. Princess Charlotte of Wales' (Berkshire) Regiment, Suakin Field Force, 1885. Eventually there will be four of these companies completed. All Perry Miniatures straight out of the box.

These are lovely - and a great advert for the Perry Plastics. Now, do I REALLY need yet more British late Victorian Colonial troops....?!

Nicely done! One of only two (I think) British army regiments to have been awarded the title Royal for a single engagement.

Very nicely painted figures (as always). It's always good to get the first company painted and based. I've just dusted off my Sudan figures after a few WW1 Palestine games. (see Delta Coy Blog) p.s. is there any particular reason why you choose the Berkshire Regiment? I only ask as I had a misspent youth in Berkshire.

The troops being painted at the moment form part of the Suakin Field Force between 1884 and 1885. The Berks were part of that force. Plus...they are my local regiment.

Correct!

These are metals! I have done some plastics as the Royal Irish Fusiliers earlier this year.

Those are lovely, I have a box of the plastics and immediately jumped over to your article April 2020 to check them out. I wasn’t sure how they would look for my Sudan stuff I’d like to paint them for. They look great.

Cheers

Great paint job as usual. My grandad fought at Gemaizah/ Suakin in 1888 with 1st Battalion The Welsh Regiment (serving in South Africa, Egypt, Sudan and Malta from 1883 to 1895), so your recent Sudan figures strike a chord!

It's a wonderful paintjob as always, Mark. Well done!

May I ask which colours you used for the grey uniforms?
Soonish I'll have some camel corps to paint and I'd love to orientate myself towards your splendid work.

All the best
Stefan

Hi Stefan. Were I to divulge the paint scheme, my publisher would be very unhappy. All my secrets are revealed in the Partizan Press Wargamers Painting Guide Vol. 4: the Mahdist Wars, 1881-85. Available from Caliver Books website. The Camel Corps have their own section!

Hi Mark,

thanks for the advice. Somehow I didn't see that relation. I'll have a look at Caliver's shop then.

Cheers
