Huzzah for Larry Lenton!

Some months ago Adrian asked me to paint up a little vignette of Gen. Larry "Light Horse" Lenton, his tabletop persona in the recent AWI campaign hosted by Alan and Michael Perry. I was asked to keep it under wraps. Now that the glorious victory of the Continentals has been posted on the the  Perry Miniatures FB page I think I can now go public. Adrian has two cats. He insisted they too be in the vignette. He even sent me photos as a reference. I think I did rather well with the tabby coats. Figures from Perry Miniatures and a Wargames Illustrated limited edition figure.

Perry Miniatures AWI Plastic Continentals

Some weeks ago, a contact (who must remain unnamed) passed on to me three sprues of the lastest plastic releases from Perry Miniatures... the AWI Continental Infantry. The instructions were explicit and I understood that not following them would have dire consequences: "Don't you go postin' anyfink on yer blog 'till Salute comes up an these is officially released." The three sprues were clearly "proofs" as there were some holes in the thinner pieces on the command sprue, but there are enough there to keep me happy for a while.

So today being the 12 April, 2014, the day of "Salute 2014", I post the first. I plan to paint up some of these figures based the paintings by Don Troiani. There are some minor variations between painting and miniature (namely the shape of the cuffs.... all these plastic Continentals come with round cuffs) so please don't bombard the comments section with "Very nice... BUT..." types of comments. I just wanted to show that if you are able to cope with minor historical discrepancies, this set of plastic miniatures has a lot of potential.

Check out Don Troiani's photos on his Facebook page for inspiration. I did!

Perry Miniatures AWI: Patriots!

I've always fancied myself, had I been around at the right time and place as a bit of a Patriot. I've had these chaps in a plastic bag for quite some time in the "One Day I'll Get Some Time To Paint These" box. I found some time!

Now to get hold of some of the early Northern Patriots that Messers Perry released earlier this month.

Perry Miniatures AWI Hessian Garrison Regiment von Huyn.

Just the two of them. Hessian Garrison Regiment Von Huyn. I needed to paint something in a cocked hat as I've not done this for a while.

The first figures destined for the Display Case in over a year! I gather that there is a re-enactment group is the U.S. that portray this regiment, but I've not been able to track down a web presence. Would love to know what they look like and to see how just how yellow their small clothes are.

Perry AWI French 24pdr and crew

There are actually six figures in this set. The missing piece is an Officer figure that, to me, seemed not interact with the rest of this gun crew, obviously intent on laying this large piece. So, he was confined to the lead mountain for the time being. The last two months have not been kind in providing time to paint, but finally this little scene is complete.

AWI Lee's Legion Dragoon

A little bit of green stuff added to this Perry XVI Light Dragoon figure, the knife to trim off a few bits of uniform embelishment, my favourite illustration from Don Troiani and presto!
