Footsore Miniatures WW1 Tommies (perhaps the last batch).

 It is really sad that Footsore Miniatures seem to have permanently retired these lovely sculpts from Paul Hicks. Sometime ago they were withdrawn as the chaps from Footsore said that the moulds needed work....two years later, they still appear  on the website but are still labelled "unavailable". No doubt they are more excited and interested in pursuing  their new ranges.

These three packs (the Battalion Command pack, Command pack and the Lewis gunners) are destined for their "forever home" far away and will be based by their owner. There are three more packs to paint (Tommies advancing, Tommies firing and a Vickers team) and these will follow shortly. It is a pleasure to revisit these figures again without swapping heads! This may be the last time.......

Footsore Miniatures WW1 1/14th London Regiment (London Scottish)

Currently out of production, these Paul Hicks sculpted figures are the best early WW1 kilted troops in 28mm. Footsore Miniatures tell me that they will be returning later this year.

Mutton Chop WW1 Tommies Revisited.

A group of twelve Tommies from Mutton Chop. Using my own green-khaki paint scheme to fit in with other figures in the same collection.

What next?

After a very difficult three month period for my mother and family, things will now slowly return to normal. Not the normality we are all used to, but a new normal, sadly one without my mother who lost her fight two weeks ago.

Mum was always worried about us, more than she was about herself. She made me promise that I would paint as much as I could in between the hospital visits. For a month I couldn't concentrate for long enough but I completed the Taliban project once we became used to the idea that Mum would be in hospital for a long time and that she would not be coming home. The end was unexpected, swift, calm and a blessing as Mum faced months of terminal decline. She has been spared that ordeal. Words can not express how I feel at present.

Painting is therapy. Although I can't do long sessions at the table at the moment I shall keep things ticking along on the projects that I had to put on hold when Mum became ill back in the summer. So, a dozen WW1 Mutton Chop Tommies and thirty WW1 Mutton Chop Germans are next. Once these are well underway I am looking forward to answering a challenge to create some WW1 British Imperial and Ottoman Camel Ambulance bases for the Middle Eastern theatres.

So... here are the first four.... I've painted and photgraphed these before but who cares. I love these Tommies by Paul Hicks.

Mutton Chop BEF Command (Pack BEF9)

Things have not been as bad at work as I feared. I've been able to dabble with the paint over the past couple of weeks and complete the other three figures from the Mutton Chop BEF Command Pack. Deep joy!

I've just noticed the varnish bloom around the Officer's holster and binocular case. Will rectify.

Mutton Chop WW1 British Stretcher Bearer

I've had the latest Mutton Chop releases in the queue since they came out some weeks ago. Having returned from the Salient last month I've been desperate to start them but other painting work has had to take priority. I now enter June, the annual fallow period when I put the brushes down for a month as the next four or five weeks are pretty grim at work and time to paint will be very short and energy to paint quite low. So I don't bother.... but before I took the annual break I had to paint just one Tommy! Here he is, the Stretcher Bearer from pack BEF9. See you all again in July!

To celebrate the passing of a lot of nonsense at work and a return to peaceful and  happier times, I painted something. The first visit to the painting table in about three weeks. Here we have more Hicks Niceness in the shape of pack BEF7 from his excellent Mutton Chop WW1 range of figures. These chaps are painted up with the AK Interactive British WW1 Uniform triad reviewed earlier on the blog. I wanted to see what a group of these figures would look like if painted with this triad. It is growing on me.

The plan is to paint up a twelve man section of these figures and then offer them up to the World for purchase. Watch this space.
