Mutton Chop Miniatures WW1. Tommy Atkins Test Piece.
Having varnished a number of Italians yesterday and prepped the next half dozen, I was lured into painting up a Mutton Chop Tommy just to get the feel for them. A figure was pulled at random from the bag and I set to work.
Mark, this chap looks really excellent. Just about perfect. In comparison to Great War Miniatures figures, how was he to paint? The figure looks to be a very good match for Paul's figures for Musketeer - right?
Thanks for the compliments, Chums. Juan, the recipe is the same as can be found in the painting guide that I sent you today. Sidney, to paint... a joy... my favourite subject from a fantastic sculptor. Compared to GWMs these figures are just as good to paint, if not better. Not easier... just different. These chaps are ever so slightly larger than Mr Hicks' Musketeer Mins range. Not that you would notice unless you put them side by side. I would have no hesitation in using these figures and Musketeer mins in the same unit. In fact, I plan to do a few rifle sections for 1914-15 and will augment any furture Mutton Chops with Musketeer figures for diversity.
