Steve Dean's Painting Competition Entry

Carabinier, 1st Neopolitan Light Infantry, 1810. This is a Perry Miniatures 40mm French Voltigeur figure with a different uniform scheme. It has been over a year since I last entered this competition, where the standard is high and some pretty big names in the miniatures painting world take part. I bit the bullet with this figure and I sent it in. It reached the Knockout Round of the main Competiton having finished top of its group. I was pretty pleased with that result as my previous entries failed to qualify. How will the next entry do? It is in the lap of the Gods.

Field Guns WW1 Middle Eastern Theatre

A little out of focus but these are two 18pdr guns and crew from Woodbine Designs crew and ammunition caissons from GWM. One is a Royal Australian Field Artillery Crew, the other either an RFA crew or a RHA crew... prior to the Palestine campaign the RHA exchanged their 13pdrs for 18pdrs.

Late War Turks

Some GWM Late War German infantry figures painted up as Turkish Infantry for the later war period. They look very different when not painted in field grey.

WW1 Turks with a twist.

Originally Anglian Miniatures Moroccan Regulars but modified to represent Dervish Volunteer Infantry in Ottoman service for WW1. A knob of green stuff raised the head-dress a little and nothing else was changed. The colour scheme is entirely conjectural as I only had a monochrome photo in the Osprey book to go on.... and the equipment may not be entirely correct... but they look alright, don't they? A little bit of green stuff added to this Perry XVI Light Dragoon figure, the knife to trim off a few bits of uniform embelishment, my favourite illustration from Don Troiani and presto!

Rifleman 1/12th London Regiment (The Rangers), 1918.

Have taken the decision that in 2010, leaving aside the WW1 commissions I have already agreed to take up, any painting that I do for my my own collection will cover some different time periods. So... I thought I'd paint up the last few GWMs that I have sitting on the little shelf above my painting table. Here's the first of the last few WW1 figures destined for my display cabinet. 1/12th London Regiment was my wife's Great Uncle's Regiment.
