Adding to my 18th Century Palatine force.

Although having been painting a lot of commission pieces over the past few months, I have managed to squeeze in some painting for my (very slowly) growing 18th Century Palatine army and finish off three units that have been gently worked on over the past year. Here we have the Regiment of Reiter commanded by Graf Eliot von Port-Eliot, Comte de Morhange (an English soldier of fortune in Palatine service). The riders are Minden Miniatures Hanovarian Dragoons, repurposed for the task, mounted on plastic horses from Wargames Atlantic. I was keen to see if these plastic beasts could be utilised. They are slightly too big in scale for these Minden figures, but not wildly so.  I also completed the 1st Battalion of the Infantry Regiment von Baaden, the oldest regiment in the army of Pfalz  (figures from Crann Tara with a Minden Miniatures mounted officer). Finally, a battery of mixed calibre heavy guns (guns from Minden and gunners from Crann Tara). I now need to turn my attention to a combined battalion of Grenadiers. All flags are prints from files by Frederic Aubert.

White Russian 3rd Kalmyk Horse Regiment.

Read all about these fine fellows here. This will explain the sheep, the heads impaled on their lances, and the Buddhist Lama. Figures, gently modified, from Copplestone Castings. The sheep come from Wargames Foundry. The unit's standard is being painted by Mark Allen and will be added when troops and flag are brought together in a couple of weeks.

A Big Sudan Project. Part 6.

Some Algerian Spahis. We had to bite the bullet and use the much heftier Gringo40 miniatures. Lovely figures to paint. These are the first six of a unit of twelve.

A Big Sudan Project. Part 5.

The first two companies of a battalion of the French Foreign Legion to join other units from North Africa, destined to be relocated to French Senegal to march east into southern Sudan in the campaign slated for the summer of 2026. These figures are from 1898 Miniatures. Next up, the first three figures for a unit of French Algerian Spahis. Glorious Leader bit the bullet and provided me with the Spahis from the Gringos 40 Tonkin range. These are much more "heroic" in scale when compared to Perry figures, but there was no real alternative that would fit the bill. I am actually looking forward to seeing how they turn out, as they are lovely figures.

A Big Sudan Project. Part 4.

The transport for the battery of two 37mm Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon. The horse teams and drivers come from the Perry Miniatures' Victoria's Little Wars range, and I utilise the two Gattling Gun Limbers that comprise the set. The limber with caisson comes from the 1st Corps Mexican-American War range. There has been no conversion work in any of this, just a suitable palette for French Colonial Artillery.
